Digital options despite mechanical metering

When HORSCH started with pneumatic metering technology it was mainly designed for large working widths. After 35 years the Versa 3 KR is equipped with the first electromechanical metering system.

For a long time, HORSCH dealt with the topic how mechanical metering technology can be adapted and optimised. The big question was: How can we generate an added value for the farmers with a technology that has been established in the market for decades? The answer is the Versa 3 KR with its SmartClip metering system.

Rewrite history

There has always been the demand from our customers for a lighter 3 m rotary harrow combination with mechanical metering. A lighter combination is ideal for tractors from 160 hp. It helps to gain a foothold in the seed drill sector even in smaller structured regions. The rotary harrow can also be linked to larger tractors up to 250 hp. The range of hopper attachments up to a capacity of 1500 l guarantees high efficiency and reduces filling stops.

With regard to handling and calibration HORSCH relies on the new control concept to provide the farmer with a machine with which he is optimally prepared for the future and for digital topics. The electronic system completely communicates via ISOBUS standard. Thus, you can work with application cards as standard, sow different seed sizes with VariableRate or quite simply use SectionControl. The control concept has been optimised for touch terminals and allows for adjusting the display individually. Handling the Versa 3 KR was to be as simple as possible. This is why everything has been arranged on the left side of the machine in an easily accessible way to be able to adjust the settings quickly and simply. In this context, the calibration process of the Versa was automated, too. Similar to Pronto, Focus and co, this eliminates the need for a wearisome manual adjustment with a crank handle as we used to know it from the calibration of mechanical drills.
With the Versa 3 KR you can sow a very wide range of different crops, among others main crops like rape, wheat, barley, but also smallest fine seed, rough legumes and spelt.

Other advantages of the Versa 3 KR are the effortless adaption of the row spacings from 15 cm to 30 or 45 cm and the SmartClip metering system that offers utmost flexibility for tramline widths and rhythms. This is particularly interesting when machines are used on several farms, for contractors or machine co-operations as the settings and adjustments can be carried out quickly and in an uncomplicated way.
The rotary harrow shows its advantages especially in wet conditions, e. g. after sugar beet and grain maize. The mobile inside scraper at the seed coulter improves the self-cleaning effect and allows for longer sowing windows. Moreover, an optional cranked heavy harrow is available for the Versa. On the one hand, the heavy harrow can be adjusted very flexibly – rather passively when sowing fine seeds as well as quite aggressively if it is wet in late autumn. In addition, the cranked harrow moves the earth transversely which guarantees that the seed furrow is covered with earth even in most difficult conditions.
