Sprinter 6.25 SL: innovation for compact and efficient sowing

In the market, there currently is an increased interest in compact, lightweight tine seed drills. This is the reason why HORSCH extended the existing product line with the Sprinter SL.

The Sprinters have been an integral part of the HORSCH product range for decades. Based on the experiences in tine seeding technology and the requirements of the market, the Sprinter 6.25 SL has been added to the product line. The concept of the new Sprinters and the combination with the Partner FT front tank consists in providing a lightweight and manoeuvrable seed drill combination that is perfectly balanced. Thus, the 6 m wide seed drill can be used for sowing comfortably even in smaller fields.
The reason for the new Sprinter lines among others are the changing climate conditions which entail longer dry periods. Thus, in some parts of the world, cultivation methods change, too. The objective is to reduce tillage to a minimum as any interference with the soil can encourage aeration, heating and evaporation resulting in a loss of water. To be able to sow without previous tillage, you need a seed drill that optimally works in case of high amounts of straw as well as in hard soils.

Quick facts

  • Individual depth control
  • Release force of 180 kg
  • Three different coulter options
  • Another machine for the Partner FT

Trash tines ensure optimum seed placement

The tines of the Sprinter SL allow for sowing directly in recently harvested fields. Compared to the disc coulter, the tine seed coulter has removing characteristics and minimises the risk of “hairpinning” where harvest residues and organic matter are pressed into the seed furrow thus preventing an optimum embedding of the seed in the seed furrow. The trash tine of the Sprinter SL creates a residue-free seed furrow and ensures a perfect seed placement in the seed furrow. This provides optimum conditions for a perfect emergence.
The 3-bar design of the Sprinters ensures a high clearance in case of high harvest residues. The depth control of the tines is carried out by a press wheel thus achieving a precise depth placement.
Flexibility can be increased by three different coulter versions with different characteristics. They allow for individually adapting the Sprinter to different conditions and requirements.

Market

Great Britain is an excellent market for the HORSCH Sprinter. In the good farming regions with heavy clay soils and a high share of straw, the tine seed drill performed very well. The flexibility of the Sprinter with the three tine options that allow for reacting to various conditions is well appreciated. “The Sprinter SL is a great machine – easy operation and at the same time low operating costs“, Stephen Burcham, general manager of HORSCH UK, explains. Especially with regard to fighting weeds, e.g. black grass, the tines are extremely efficient. An aspect that is also well appreciated is the option to sow with a row spacing of 25 cm to encourage a healthier plant development.

Due to the compactness and the manoeuvrability of the Sprinter SL as well as the various tine options, farmers can sow more efficiently and thus achieve better results.
