Avatar SL: compact, manoeuvrable and versatile

With the Avatar 6.25 SL, HORSCH presents a compact machine that excels due to numerous application options. France is a market for the Avatar SL.

The Avatar SL is the most compact and the most manoeuvrable seed drill of the Avatar line. With the attached version of the Avatar 6.25 SL, farmers benefit from an extremely flexible machine. It is ideal for mulch seeding conditions. The seed elements are arranged on one single row. The depth control roll of the SingleDisc single disc coulter ensures a regular depth placement even in changing conditions. Row spacings of 25 cm resp. 30 cm allow for mechanical weed control.
In combination with the Partner FT front tanks, the Avatar is a powerful solution, also for the sector of conservation farming. This combination is particularly suitable for demanding farmers as well as contractors and machine co-operations. The Avatar SL can be used for sowing catch crop in summer, rape after cereals as well as for direct seeding in catch crop if the conditions allow for it. The list of possible applications is long.

Quick facts

  • Can be used for mulch seeding
  • Precise placement
  • Selective hosing
  • Individual depth control

As an option, the Avatar SL is available with trash wheels that can also cope with high amounts of straw residues without any problems. The trailed design allows for a perfect following of the soil contours as every trash wheel can be adapted individually to the desired depth. Due to the trailed design, organic material is removed easily, and the soil is disturbed only to a minimum extent. The Avatar SL thus provides new possibilities with regard to the development of soil protecting technologies and at the same time keeps the costs for operating material at a reasonable level.
To extend the range of applications, the Avatar SL can be equipped with a selective hosing. This allows for an alternating feeding of the seed coulter with two different crops. The requirements of the components can be met perfectly, and due to the individual depth control coarse seeds for example can be placed deeper and fine seeds can be placed shallower. On the other hand, the row spacing can be doubled allowing for sowing cereals with a row spacing of 25 cm and soybeans with a row spacing of 50 cm.

France

In France, the sales of direct seed drills with discs boomed at the end of the 2010s. Currently, around 70 % of the Avatar machines are working over there on minimum prepared soils.

Clement Gida, farmer and stock farmer with 30 ha grassland and 345 ha cereals and oilseeds tested the Avatar SL. He talks about his experiences:
“We used this 3-point machine in different conditions. First, for sowing a mixture of vetches and clover in wheat straw directly with 10 km/h. The trash wheels optimally cleared the seed furrow. The pressure of 80 bar was enough to make the disc penetrate the soil. The press wheel, too, did a good job. Without changing the pressure or the speed, I tested the machine for sowing the same cover crop in a field that had been prepared with a disc harrow. I was very satisfied with the emergence result. If we had had finer soil after an intensive tillage and a drier soil, we would have had to further reduce the pressure.

With regard to sowing rape, for a safe germination, the soil was cultivated at a depth of 6 cm and consolidated before the Avatar SL was used. We used the trash wheels to remove stones in front of the seed row. The machine was tested for re-sowing meadows: With direct seeding with 7 km/h, the disc penetrated optimally at a depth of 1 cm and emergence was excellent. We were looking for a versatile seed drill and the Avatar SL met all our requirements.”
