Cura 18 ST: active tine retraction and new design

The Cura 18 ST completes the HORSCH harrow portfolio not only with another working width but also excels due to its new design.

The range of applications of the Cura is numerous. The harrow can be used for a light seedbed preparation before sowing as well as for precise pre-emergence harrowing and the maintenance measures in the crops for mechanical weed management. It particularly impresses with a high work rate and the robust design. The maximum frame height of 450 mm allows for harrowing in high crops and, thus, makes the Cura ST a central machine for hybrid farming as well as for organic farms.
With the Cura 18 ST, HORSCH completes the line with another trailed harrow that with regard to the working width ranges between the Cura 15 ST and the larger 24 ST. The working width is a logical completion as a lot of farms work with 36 m tramlines.

The Cura 18 ST excels due to its new design. Compared to the larger models, it is simpler and more compact. It is a 7-bar design which ensures a long service life and a precise harrowing even with a large working width. The frame also is very robust. Due to the new transport wheels, it is possible to work with smaller and lighter tractors and thus to contribute to a maximum protection of the soil. Based on this concept, more working widths can be added to the Cura line in the future.

Active tine retraction

The tines of the Cura ST are individually fastened and spring-loaded and thus ensure a constant work result even in uneven fields. The tine pressure can be adapted flexibly. This allows for a wide range of applications.
A special feature of this line is that the tine can be retracted actively. This allows for more clearance when cornering. Moreover, organic material that gets caught in the tine zone in adverse conditions is loosened easily. The active tine retraction also allows for a more compact folding of the harrow so that the maximum transport width is not exceeded.

Quick facts

  • Low horsepower requirement from 140 hp
  • 28 mm tine spacing
  • 8 mm thick tines with 60 mm carbide protection
  • Flexibly adjustable tine pressure between 300 g and 5 000 g

Demand from the markets

Especially in Hungary, a lot of our customers who farm organically hoe with a working width of 9 m. For them, the Cura 18 ST is a reasonable option for mechanical weed control.
But also among hybrid farms in Central and Northern Germany that work with 36 m tramlines, we notice an increasing demand for a harrow with a working width of 18 m.
“I see an enormous potential for the Cura 18 ST for farms with machines that fit into the system of working and tramline widths. The Cura is an alternative respectively a completion for mechanical weed control and is very popular among farmers with root crops in the rotation and with 9 m singulation and hoeing technology”, Andreas Plottke, head of the HORSCH sales team in Northern Germany, explains.
