Welcome

Dear Reader

Since Covid 2020, we have been confronted with new issues that force us to constantly adapt.

The first half of 2025 was characterised by a wide range of challenges: in some regions, it was very wet, and the spring crops suffered. Other areas struggled with extreme drought. Central and southern Europe were luckier with the weather this year and can hope for a good harvest.

In addition to the weather extremes, we also have to face other challenges: all over the world, it is difficult to find employees in the agricultural sector. World market prices are not moving at the moment, fertiliser prices are soaring, and costs are rising. In addition, arable farming has to struggle with more and more resistance. Bureaucratic overregulation is complicating day-to-day business, sustainability regulations are increasing, politics is causing fundamental uncertainty, never-ending wars, customs regulations that change on a daily basis and so on. In short: a complicated, challenging and unsettling time.

For this issue of terraHORSCH, we have conducted interviews with people who are facing up to current issues and looking for solutions. All in all, in all our contacts and encounters with farmers, we notice a positive mood and confidence for the future as well as many creative approaches.

Enjoy reading this issue.
